The 4 Brigade of the Nigerian Army in Benin City, has announced that its troops of Exercise Crocodile Smile IV in a joint operation with personnel of National Drugs Law Enforcement Agency Ondo State Command, have arrested one Ayodele Ohimai along with Mrs. Omo Kehinde, wife of a second suspect, Mr. Reuben Kehinde, in connection with the killing of four NDLEA operatives at Ifon in Ondo State.

The Brigade in a statement issued by its Assistant Director Army Public Relations,  Major Ojo Adenegan, said the arrest was made in the early hours of Monday 9 December 2019 after the joint team conducted a raid operation at Uzebba Community in Owan West Local Government Area of Edo State.

The statement explained that the operation was targeted at suspects who allegedly attacked NDLEA checkpoint between Ifon and Uzebba on 17 Feb this year in which four personnel of NDLEA were killed and their operational vehicle set ablaze in the unfortunate incident.

“During the raid operation in Uzebba Town one suspect named Mr. Ayodele Ohimai was arrested while the second suspect Mr. Reuben Kehinde escaped but his wife, Mrs. Omo Kehinde was picked up”, the statement said. 

The statement also said the troops of 4 Brigade Exercise Crocodile Smile; acting on a tip-off, prevented a robbery attack at Ogheghe Community in Ikpoba- Okha Local Government Area of Edo State at about 2200hrs on 9 Monday, December 2019.

“On receipt of the information, troops mobilized swiftly to the scene of the incident and arrested 3 suspects. They also recovered a short single barrel gun with five live cartridges.

“The suspected killers of the personnel of National Drugs Law Enforcement Agency have since been handed over to the NDLEA for further investigation while the robbery suspects are in our custody for further investigation before they are handed over to Civil Police for further necessary action”,

the statement said.

The Brigade solicited more support and cooperation from the general public in the area of information sharing on criminal activities within the State and its environs, assuring the general public that the Nigerian Army will leave no stone unturned in ensuring a peaceful Edo
