U20 Women’s World Cup: We are Strong Contenders, Says Ajibade

Ahead of the FIFA Women’s U20 World Cup next month, Falconets striker, Rasheedat Ajibade insists Nigeria must be considered as a strong contender.

The Falconets finished as runners-up twice in 2010 and 2014, in narrow losses to Germany on both occasions, but this current squad will look to go one better than their predecessors according to Ajibade.

The FC Robo striker, who already represents Nigeria at senior level, is optimistic the current team is ready to face any opposition at this year’s tournament.

‘We have put in quality time and energy into our preparation for the world cup and there’s no way, we’re going there to make up the numbers.

‘Nigeria has a certain pedigree in this tournament and we want to keep improving on what our predecessors have achieved.’

The 9th edition of the U20 Women’s World Cup kicks off on August 5, in France and Christopher Danjuma’s team have been drawn in group D alongside Germany, Haiti and China.

Nigeria will open their group D campaign against Germany on August 6.
