Uruguay vs France: Cavani misses out as Mbappe starts for Les Bleus

Paris Saint-Germain striker Edinson Cavani has failed to make Uruguay’s starting XI for their Russia 2018 World Cup quarter-final against France due to injury.

The former Napoli striker will start on the bench for the knockout tie, with Girona’s Christian Stuani partnering Barcelona’s Luis Suarez up front in Cavani’s absence.

Oscar Tabarez has otherwise named an unchanged side from the 2-1 victory over Spain in the last 16, with Jose Gimenez keeping his place in defence, having fully recovered from a back problem.

On the other hand, France boasts a fully fit side, making only one change from their last outing against Argentina.

Blaise Matuidi drops to the bench, replaced by Corentin Tolisso.

Paul Pogba, Antoine Griezmann, and Kylian Mbappe will all be attempting to support Olivier Giroud, who starts up top once again.

Uruguay:

Muslera; Gimenez, Godin, Caceres, Laxalt; Nandez, Torreira, Bentancur, Vecino; Suarez, Stuani

France:

Lloris, Pavard, Varane, Umtiti, Pogba, Tolisso, Kante, Hernandez, Griezmann, Giroud, Mbappe
