WABA Thanks The IBF For Grooming Its Leader

Africa’s based World Africa Boxing Association (WABA) extended its gratitude to the International Boxing Federation (IBF) for grooming its founding President and Chair of the Board Hon. Ky Col. Onesmo Alfred McBride Ngowi is the most capable and dynamic boxing administrator. Hon. Ky Col. Ngowi was picked by the founding President of the IBF Robert Lee Sr. to launch IBF’s first continental body in 1999.

Over a span of 20 years Hon. Ky Col Ngowi managed to reach the pinnacle of professional boxing in the world and served in the position of President in the Boxing Union of Tanzania (BUT 1998-2000), Tanzania Professional Boxing Commission (TPBC 2000-2018), East and Central Africa Professional Boxing Federation (ECAPBF 2006-2017) and the IBF/Africa (1999-2019) when he became the President and Chair of the Board of WABA.

Hon. Ky Col. Ngowi also served on the Board of Directors of the London, UK based Commonwealth Boxing Council (CBC 1998-2018), Beijing, China-based IBF Silk and Belt Region (2015-2019), Bangkok, Thailand based IBF Muaythai (2016 – 2019) and the IBF Ratings Committee (2000 – 2019).

As the recipient of several international awards ranging from science, technology, humanitarian and Leadership Hon. Ky Col. Ngowi was named as the Technologist of the Century in 2000 by the Office of the President of the United Republic of Tanzania for his great efforts to introduce and promote the Internet in Tanzania in the 90s working with America Online.

He was honored by the Governor of the State of Kentucky, USA H.E. Stephen Beshaer as the LIFETIME Honorable Kentucky Colonel (Ambassador of Goodwill of the Commonwealth of Kentucky, USA) for his global humanitarian activities especially helping to train marginalized youth in 2015.

Hon. Ky. Col. Ngowi is also the recipient of “The Order of St. George Northern American having bestowed on him by Queen Elizabeth II of Great Britain who is the Chair of The Order of St. George International for his global activities in sports and philanthropy.

In 2016 he was awarded “The Leadership Excellency” by the United States Africa Command (US AFRICOM, for his efforts in providing Cultural Understanding and Language Proficiency (CULP) to the US Army Cadets from 2014-2017. He was named the International Exchange Alumni by the US State Department in 2018.

Appreciating the IBF as its leaders’ backbone for over 20 years, the WABA thanks New Jersey. USA based world’s major boxing body, the IBF for grooming Hon. Ky Col. Ngowi to his present position of leadership passing under the mentorship of all the IBF Presidents from Robert (Bob) Lee Sr. Hiawatha G. Knight, Marian Muhammad, and Daryl Peoples respectively.
