A woman, Mrs. Nnenna Egwuagu,29, has confessed how she poisoned her three-year-old stepson, Wisdom Egwuagu to death with insecticide(sniper)at Umulumgbe village in Udi Local Government Area of the State.
The suspect who was arrested by the 9th Mile Police Division of Enugu State Police Command confessed that her action was due to her husband’s inability to take care of her and their daughter; and that she wanted the child to become sick so her husband could spend money to treat him.
According to Enugu State Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) ASP. Daniel Ndukwe, the suspect allegedly administered a noxious substance to her three-year-old stepson, Wisdom Egwuagu, thereby causing his sudden death.
“Her husband and father of the deceased child, Justine Egwuagu, who reported the incident to the Police, alleged that the unusual actions of the suspect towards the child caused his death.
“Preliminary investigation showed that the suspect confessed to having administered the noxious substance, suspected to be sniper insecticide, to the child. The child was confirmed dead in the hospital and his body deposited in the mortuary for autopsy.
“Meanwhile, the container of the noxious substance and syringe she used in administering the substance to the child has been recovered, while a further thorough investigation into the case is ongoing at the State Criminal Investigation and Intelligence Department (SCIID), Enugu.
“To this end, the Commissioner of Police, Mr. Mohammed Ndatsu Aliyu, who described the act as callous and unfortunate, advised couples to truly love each other, live peaceably no matter the circumstance, and use every legal and/or morally acceptable means to resolve their differences”.
