IPOB/ESN responsible for arson, destruction in South East — Army

Why we attack Security agents , Goverment facilities in S’east- suspected ESN members

Suspected members of the Eastern Security Network (ESN), the security arm of the outlawed Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), have told the reason behind their frequent attacks on police personnel, police stations, and other security agents and facilities in the South East.

Elom Daniel, a 17-year-old self-confessed member of the ESN in Ebonyi State told journalist at the Ebonyi State Police Command where he was paraded alongside 59 other suspects by Commissioner of Police, Aliyu Graba, that they took the decision to be killing police officers, military personnel and security facilities because of the alleged inability of the police and Army to stop criminal Fulani herdsmen from killing people and causing destructions in South East.

Elom, from Ngbo in Ohaukwu Local Government Area of Ebonyi State who confessed that he was part of the ESN team that attacked and killed two Army officers at Amasiri Junction in Afikpo North LGA on March 26, said the pro-Biafran group took the decision to be attacking police and other security agents at a meeting of the group that held on August 19, 2019, in Abakaliki.

He said: ‘’ I am a member of the Eastern Security Network (ESN). I was part of the team that attacked Policemen at Checkpoint at Ishieke, Army checkpoint at Amasiri, Onueke police station, Central police station in Abakaliki, and other security checkpoints in Ebonyi. But I have not killed any security personnel. Because I have not handled guns; my duty was to give information about any place to be attacked. For instance, before we attacked CPS, I first went there on the pretext that I wanted to see someone in the police cell, I monitored the environment and the surroundings and drew a map that guided those that went for the attack.

‘We had a meeting on August 19, 2019, at the home of state Commander, Onyebuchi. At the meeting we made a resolution to start attacking police men and police stations because according to our findings police had the habit of not arresting Fulani herdsmen when they commit crimes but always eager to arrest and intimidate youths in South East for any slightest criminal act. That was how we started attacking the police and military’’

Another suspect, Jona Ozibo,(aka, Ojukwu ) who also confessed to being a member of the ESN said they were trained at a place called Alanso in Arochukwu in Abia state.

CP Aliyu Garba while parading the suspects said they were arrested following credible intelligence, ‘’while acting on credible information that suspected ESN/ IPOB members were meeting at Agubia Ikwo in the residence of one Ebube Ivom, 31, their suspected ESN/IPOB Sector Commander. The said meeting had in attendance a Cross River State-based native doctor (Ezemuo), who was invited to fortify members of the group with marks on different parts of their bodies, as antidotes to bullets in preparation to attack Onueke Divisional Headquarters and INEC office both in Ezza South Local Government Area of the State by 8:30 pm of the same day, May 23,”
