Another NBA Player commits International career to Nigeria

San Antonio Spurs forward Chimezie Metu has declared he’ll commit his international career to Nigeria and says he’s open for selection ahead of the 2019 FIBA World Cup in China.

Metu, who was born in Los Angeles, was drafted by the Franchise as a Round 2, 49 pick, but is tipped for greatness by the Legendary Coach and President of Spurs Gregg Popovich.

“He is very intelligent, he’s got great quickness and speed, he’s got a lot of flexibility to his game, he’s a hard worker, he’s got a good size. All those things attracted us to him.”

Metu himself is excited about the prospects of his career and particularly on the chance to suit up for Nigeria, per Ayotunde Onabolu [bballnaija.com].

“One hundred percent, yeah! I’ll be there next year at the World Cup. It was just a matter of timing. I know they have me listed as American, but I’m Nigerian one hundred percent,” affirmed Metu.

Nigeria’s D’Tigers have already booked their spot in the world championships following a 3-0 win in the second phase of the FIBA zone qualifiers; extending their winning run to 9-0.

A final window of the World Cup qualifier opens on 22 February next year.
