Onazi Ogenyi is set to be sidelined for more almost 6-9 months after the midfielder suffered a broken Achilles during Trabzonspor’s Super Lig game against Rizespor on Sunday night.
Onazi was stretched off the pitch after only 32 minutes following the injury he sustained.
As per Gary Al Smith [BBC Sports] : Ogenyi Onazi injured during today’s match against Rizespor in Turkey. Reports say Achilles broke and Onazi won’t be able to play until end of season.[sic]
The injury means the Super Eagles assistant captain could be in a race against time to make the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations squad or miss the tournament altogether.
Next year’s tournament will kick off in June and initial diagnosis could rule out Onazi’s chances of getting in the Nigeria squad for the tournament.
