NFF President, Amaju Pinnick has revealed that the Super Falcons will begin their preparation for the 2019 World Cup in January and he believes the team can achieve a quarterfinal finish in the competition.
The CAF first Vice President made this known in Lagos on Thursday while talking to the media. He added the Federation will make sure the ladies start camping in January 2019.
“We want to ensure that this team is well prepared for the World Cup and we will give them the necessary support so that they can exceed their quarterfinal berth which has been the best the team achieved at the Mundial.
“We want to start the campaign by January and ensure they have good matches against European teams before the competition starts in June,” Amaju said.
The NFF boss, however, said now that the team has won the continental title nine times, the next target is to give a good account of themselves at the World Cup in France.
“We just don’t want to the World Cup and add to numbers but we want to go there as a true African champion and that is why we will make sure the team has a good preparation before the World Cup,” he added.
Super Falcons, Bayana Bayana of South Africa and indomitable Lioness of Cameroon are Africa’s representatives at the FIFA World Cup which is scheduled for June 7 to July 7 in France.
The Africans will know their know their opponents at the World Cup when the draws for the Mundial holds at the Seine Musicale arts center, near Paris on Thursday ( today).
