cultists meet Waterloo in Lagos

Six notorious cultists yesterday met their Waterloo as they were arrested by the police at the Ilasamaja area of Lagos.

The suspects had allegedly converged at Malambo Hotel, waiting to take off with some children to Lusada in Ogun State for initiation, when the Divisional Police Officer, CSP Titilayo Orinyomi, got a tip-off.

It was gathered that the woman police officer mobilized her officers and rounded up the suspects up.

The suspects, who are being interrogated at the Ilasamaja Police Division, have confessed that they were members of a notorious cult group who were ordered to come to their base in Lusada for initiation.

A police officer said that their leader, Joshua, aka Nail, has been on the wanted list of the police for recruiting underage children and artisans in the Ilasamaja, Mushin, Idi-Oro, Fadeyi and Entire areas of the state.

The officer said: “Nail has been on our wanted list. He has been the one initiating schoolchildren and artisans into the cult group. He is very dangerous. He has been elusive.

Our DPO has been looking for him. We have arrested many of his gang and there was peace in our area, but, since last year, he would sneak in and do his initiation, until luck ran against him yesterday. He came in with some of his gang and converged at the hotel.

He knew he would not be able to do the initiation rites in Lagos because Lagos is too hot for them, so he arranged the rites in Ogun State, but before they took the children away‌,  we rounded them up.”

Last week, the command also arrested 137 cultists in two locations in Lagos during initiation. Out of the number, 120 were arrested in a hotel. Commissioner of police, Imohimi Edgal, had earlier warned cultists to leave the state or risk the wrath of the force as there was no hiding place for them.

The CP advised parents to warn their children to desists from cult activities as the command would spare no one caught in the act. He said parents should not blame police if their children were arrested at the wrong place at the wrong time
