WAFU U20 Championship: Flying Eagles beat Ghana 4-2 to qualify for the semis

The Nigeria U-20 National Team, Flying Eagles, defeated the Black Starlets of Ghana 4-2 to reach the semi-final of the ongoing WAFU U-20 Championship in Togo on Wednesday.

The Paul Aigbogun tutored boys fell behind to Emmanuel Toku’s opener for the Ghanaians in the 30th minutes before Effiom Maxwell brought Nigeria level with a minute left before the half-time.

 

The second half started with slow tempo as both teams were careful not to fall behind until Ibrahim Abubakar put the Flying Eagles in front by converting a penalty kick in the 80th minute.

 

Wasiu Alalade added the third goal two minutes later before Maxwell got his brace, the team’s fourth goal on the night.

However, There was still time for Emmanuel Toku reduced the deficit by scoring Ghana’s second in same in added time.

 

The win qualified Nigeria for the semi-finals as Group B winners on goals advantage ahead of the second-placed Niger Republic who beats Ghana 1-0 and drew 0-0 with Nigeria.

 

The semifinals come up on Friday, with the final on Sunday.
