IAAF WC: Enekwechi becomes the first Nigerian to make to the final of shot put event

Nigeria’s Shot Put golden boy Chukwuebuka Enekwechi reached the final of the event at the ongoing IAAF World Championship in Doha on Thursday.

It’s the first time in history a Nigerian, will qualify for the final of the event in the history of the IAAF World Championships.

The commonwealth champion started slowly by throwing uninspiring 20.12m but later gathered huge momentum to throw 20.94m, in his second and final throw of the evening to book a place in the final.

The next challenge for the double African champion is to become the first Nigerian to win a medal at the event at the Khalifa International Stadium in Doha, Qatar on Saturday.

Enekwechi will, however, need to throw above the 21.80m personal best and national record, in order to seal his place in Nigeria’s history.
