Oboabona relishes 2013 AFCON success

Nigerian defender Godfrey Oboabona says winning the 2013 African Cup of Nations is the high point of his football career and will continue to cherish the moment.

Oboabona was part of the few home-based me player that was included in the 23 man squad of late Stephen Keshi’s team.

 

Oboabona who was on the book Sunshine Stars of Akure back then formed a great partnership with Kenneth Omeruo in the heart of the defense and helped the team all the way to glory.

Oboabona who has given up hope of featuring for his country again said he’s proud of the moment and thanked everyone who supported the squad.

 

“I’m so happy to have been part of the AFCON 2013 as a home-based. Special thanks to everyone for having confidence in the home base players.”

 

“Winning the AFCON has helped me so much. You have to believe in yourself and have the self-confidence. For me, I give thanks to God for being there for me. I am so happy for my life and career so far,” he added.

 

Oboabona made 39 appearances for Nigeria and was part of Nigeria’s squad at the 2013 FIFA Confederations Cup, 2014 FIFA World Cup.

 

Godfrey Oboabona’s career has seen him play for Caykur Rizespor, Al Ahli and Gorica. He is currently on the books of FC Dinamo Batumi.
