George Floyd: I have fear and distrust towards US Police – Onuoha

Former Manchester City defender Nedum Onuoha has disclosed that he lived in fear throughout his stay in the United States of America.

Onuoha who spent most of his career playing in the premier league decided to join Major League Soccer side Real Salt Lake in 2018.

While reacting to the ongoing protests over the killing of George Floyd by a white police officer Derek Chauvin, Onuoha said he is always wary of his behavior in the public.

“I am always very wary of how I behave and how it could be viewed by people who have power,” Onuoha.

“For me personally, overall I don’t like to say it but I have a fear and distrust towards police.”

“It is emotional; it is something that is overdue to be honest. There has been a big wave of energy towards this, there has been a lot of talk about George Floyd – these issues have been around for decades.

“It’s crazy to see but it is very necessary. I am not going to say to them that they shouldn’t do anything because they haven’t been heard for this long so let them be heard now.” He said.

Onuoha played for premier league teams like Manchester City, Sunderland, and Queens Park Rangers.

Onuoha was eligible to play England, having received British citizenship since he was seven years old, he rejected an invitation from Nigeria, the country he was born.

Despite earning 25 caps for England at U-20 level, scoring once, Onuoha never played for the Three Lions.
