….Want IGP to investigate case of gang rape
Association of Ubulu-Uku Journalists Aniocha South Local Government Area of Delta State in Lagos has condemned the recent attack on some indigenes along Isa-Ogwashi Road and the gang-raping of a 23-year-old lady in the bush.
The victim , Victoria Okocha ,who was traveling from Ubulu-Uku to Asaba in company with others was kidnapped by a five-member gang who took her into the bush after other passengers and the vehicle driver had escaped with matchete cuts .
Acting on the auspice of “Association of Ubulu-Uku Journalists in Lagos”, the media men on Saturday in a statement jointly signed by its Acting Chairman and Acting Director of Publicity, Mr. Frank Oshanugor, Editor-in-Chief, SECURITY EXPRESS magazine and Comrade Chris Oji, respectively; said it has become extremely worrisome that Ubulu-Uku historically known for peace and tranquility, is fast turning into a haven for kidnappers, killer herdsmen and other sundry criminals.

Speaking specifically on the recent kidnap of Okocha by the five- man gang who held her captive for days, gang raped her, collected ransom and threatened to kill her after forcing her to drink blood of a murdered victim, the Association said, by this very act, “it has become very obvious that Ubulu-Uku is no longer safe for both indigenes and settlers.”
The journalists recalled that when suspected Fulani herdsmen killed one Mr. Albert Chikwe Ojinji in 2019 in his farm at Ubulu-Uku, the police were expected to come to terms with the fact that Ubulu-Uku and environs have been infested by killer herdsmen among who are the kidnappers.
In 2010, an Ubulu-Uku indigene, Mr. Nwafor Megbune-Iwelu was similarly attacked in his farm by suspected herdsmen. The unprovoked attackers whose cows had ravaged Iwelu’s farm had left him for dead but he later survived though without losing the active use of his hands.
“The Association considers all these and incidents of kidnapping in Ubulu-Uku at one time or the other, as unbecoming.”
It has therefore called on the Inspector General of Police, Delta State Governor and the State Commissioner of Police to do everything within their powers to track down Victoria Okocha’s kidnappers and rapists for them to face the law.
According to the statement “no stone must be left unturned in the police investigation with a view to stemming the tide of these unprovoked violent attacks.”
