Ikeme’s Wolves Gain Promotion Back To EPL

By James Agberebi:

Nigeria goalkeeper Carl Ikeme’s English Championship club Wolverhampton Wanderers have secured promotion back to the Premier League after Fulham failed to beat Brentford on Saturday.

Ikeme has not been involved in the promotion bid due to acute leukaemia but he will be honoured by the club.

Third-placed Fulham were held to a 1-1 draw at Craven Cottage by Brentford which confirmed Wolves’ promotion.

Fulham’s draw with Brentford means they now trail Wolves by 10 points with only three matches remaining for the London club.

Wolves who have occupied top spot in the Championship since October, will host Birmingham City on Sunday.

They currently have 92 points with 28 victories and eight draws, with 76 goals scored.

Their promotion ended a six-year absence from the top flight and this is the third time Wolves have earned promotion from the Championship.

Two clubs are automatically promoted from the 24-team second-tier Championship with teams in third to sixth vying for the third promotion spot via the play-offs.
