Mikel Obi hints at international retirement after World Cup ousting

Super Eagles Skipper Mikel Obi has provided a hint on his international future with the national team after the disappointment of crashing out at the group stage at the Russia 2018 World Cup.

 

Mikel who has been tipped for retirement after Tuesday’s 1-2 loss against Argentina, which confirms the elimination of Nigeria from the World Cup fought with tears while speaking at the post-match conference.

 

The former Chelsea midfielder however refused to rule himself out of representing Nigeria at the 2022 World Cup in Qatar but insist that he will analyse his continual stay in the team on yearly basis.

 

” I hope I can continue with the team until the next World Cup.

 

“It’s a fantastic team, one of the best I’ve ever played ‎in, but I will like to take it one year at a time for now.

 

“We will see what happens”, he concluded when asked about his future.
