Aruna Quadri to begin 2019 world number 26

Nigeria Table Tennis star Aruna Quadri has began the 2019 as the world’s number 26th and Africa’s number 1 rated player followingInternational Table Tennis Federation (ITTF) January ranking released on Wednesday.

Quadri who failed to show up for the Abuja 2018 National Sports Festival has not been active for more two months but it wasn’t enough to cost him a place among the top 26 players in the world.

The Nigerian still maintains his position as the highest ranked player in the continent having displaced Egypt’s Omar Assar in October.

 

Assar on the other side, still maintained his spot in 47th position in the world, no thanks to the suspension given to jim by the Egyptian Table Tennis Federation (ETTF) which affected him.

Aruna’s compatriot Segun Toriola and Olajide Omotayo were unmoved in the ranking , Toriola who won gold for Akwa Ibom state at the concluded National Sports Festival in Abuja remains 136 while Omotayo, a semifinalist at the 2018 ITTF African Championship is ranked 146th.

In the world ra nking, China’s Fan Zhendong and Ding Ning head are leading the ranking 2019, As they sit on top of the Men’s and Women’s World Rankings respectively.

The Chinese pair achievement in 2018 saw them crowned winners of the ITTF Star Awards in Incheon, Korea.

Ding Ning’s who began 2018 in 21st position completes a remarkable turnaround over the last 12 months to finish the year as number 1.
