A concerned Nigerian and Chief Executive Officer of Dattijo Multi-Purpose Business, Abuja; Mr. Faruq Musa Muhammed has called on the newly appointed Inspector General of Police (IGP) to question an ex-militant leader; Alhaji Asari Dokubo over his recent threat to people of the Igbo race in a manner that can cause break down of law and order in the country.
In a letter dated 21st June, 2023 addressed to the IGP, Muhammed said he was “writing this formal complaint as a concerned and patriotic Nigerian who always has a zeal and motivation of making our dear country, Nigeria a better place as I have soundly and reasonably learned that Mr. Asari Dokubo is presently plotting to create breakdown of law and order in our society.,”
The Dattijo President added that a trending video which runs for a minute and 30 seconds has shown Dokubo “wearing a red T-shirt, speaking pidgin English as he partly says “………..you (Igbo people will do video to sell that Alhaji (Dokubo Asari) has run away, you dey see me. I don’t run.”
He further stated that Asari Dokubo in the video picked up an AK47 Rifle from his left side indicating that he is ready to face them (Igbo people) with that weapon. Muhammed said again that the “video is trending on the social media platforms and it is sending a wrong message against our national security because Dokubo was trying to send message to the general public that he is above the law.”
It will be recalled that a few days ago, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu had played host to Dokubo at the Presidential Villa, Abuja during which the former leader of the Niger Delta Volunteers Force addressed a press conference. Among other things, at the conference he had alleged that Nigeria’s military officers were largely responsible for crude oil theft in the Niger Delta. Both the Army and Navy spokespersons have since responded, challenging him to provide evidence.
Meanwhile, some serving and retired state security agents who spoke to our correspondent on the basis of anonymity have accused Tinubu for bringing shame to the Presidency by allowing a non-state actor (Asari Dokubo) to sit at the Presidential Conference hall with the Coat of Arms (a symbol of authority) behind him while addressing members of the press as if he was the President.
According to them, such action portends danger for the Nigerian state as President Tinubu has indirectly given the impression that non-state actors like Asari Dokubo could be trusted much more than Nigeria’s security forces which include the military, police, DSS, and other para-military agencies on national security issues.
