Cultists kill 5 in Rivers, give conditions for ceasefire

Gunmen loyal to wanted David Gift (aka 2Baba) suspected to be responsible for the killing of Superintendent of Police, SP Bako Angbashim, late Divisional Police Officer (DPO) of Ahoada Police Division on Sunday morning, attacked and killed five natives of Odiemerenyi community in Ahoada East Local Government Area of Rivers State.

A native of the community who pleaded anonymity, told Daily Sun that the suspected cultists invaded the community at about 1am on Sunday, where they killed two of his brothers and another person in his compound.

The brother to the deceased explained that five persons in total were killed in the community by the suspects.

The source gave names of people killed by the suspected cultists as Charles Osu, Ogbobula Ejee, Eeje Idaowukwo and two others.

He said the suspected cultists told the community after the killings, that the only condition for them (cultists) to stop the killing is for the Nigeria Police to release their sponsors and sympathizers, as well as some chiefs in their (Police) custody before they (cultists) would cease fire.

The native called on the Rivers State Government and security agencies to do more in order to arrest the wanted cultists, as people in the community and neighbouring communities now live in fear.

Another native, who also did not want his name in print, said the suspected cultists also accused some of the community natives killed of being Police informants.

Meanwhile, it was gathered that two of the hoodlums were killed in exchange of gunfire with Ahoada Police Division that responded to distress call by the community.

The spokesperson for the Rivers State Police Command, SP Grace Iringe-Koko, told journalists that the would give details of what happened later.
