DCP OKONKWO CHALLENGES POLICEMEN UNDER HIS NEW COMMAND TO A NEW STANDARD

Officers and men of the Nigeria Police in Ngor/Okpala Local Government Area in Imo State have been charged to be of exemplary conduct in discharging their duties by shunning all vices that could tarnish their personal image and that of the Police as a whole. The charge was given by the new Area Commander for Ngor/Okpala, Deputy Commissioner of Police, Ephraim Okonkwo at a meeting with officers and men under his command at the Local Government Headquarters recently.

DCP Okonkwo enumerated such vices which he described as ‘no go areas’ as illegal roadblocks, extortion, illegal detentions, illegal duties, and harassment of civilians; and said such conducts would carry maximum sanctions under his watch. According to him, the new regime calls for new ways of doing things better and that’s what’s happening to the Nigeria Police, and it requires collective efforts.

The new Area Commander charged his men to embrace the concept and practice of Community Policing which is the vogue and new global standard wherein the Police and the local populace/communities cooperate and work seamlessly through information and intelligence gathering and sharing in the task of crime fighting and ensuring peaceful society.

DCP Okonkwo told his men that as a way of challenging them to aspire to the new policing best practice, he would institute an Award of the best Police Officer of the Month in his command; and a Plaque and cash token would be given to the winner every Month. This gesture drew a thunderous ovation from the officer and men at the meeting. Earlier there was a parade and Inspection of Guards by the new Area Commander.
