Desire Oparanozie warns France ‘We’ll Prove the 8-0 defeat was a Fluke’

“Fluke”, “Match Strength for Strength”, “Physique for “Physique” are strong words and were the choice words of Super Falcons forward Desire Oparanozie who is already dreaming a revenge mission against France at the World Cup.

Flashback eight months ago; precisely on April 6 at the MMArena, in an international friendly Les Bleues hammered the Falcons 8-0; spread across 60 minutes in the game duration.

It was the second heaviest defeat suffered by Africa’s most successful senior national team, the first being a 8-0 defeat to Norway at the World Cup in 1995.

In a 2 minute-long video Oparanozie described the loss to France as “disgraceful”, but also vows the team was determined to “redeem” come June 17.

Nigeria will face France again in a competitive fixture; their first meeting in the world cup, and the EAG Guingamp player says one objective at the tournament is prove the defeat in April was a “Fluke”.

‘I’m excited about that because it will give us the room to redeem ourselves having lost to them in April; earlier this year, It was a disgraceful loss and that was because we were inactive for abut sixteen months.

‘I’m happy we’re playing against them in the group stage that will give us the opportunity to let them understand that what happened in April was a fluke,’ She said.

Nigeria was drawn in group A alongside France, Norway and Korea Republic.
