Dream team snub – Ubakanma not disappointed

River United midfielder Peter Ubakanma says he’s was not disappointed to be left out of the 33 man squad for U-23 AFCON qualifier clash with Libya next month and vows to work hard to achieve his dream of representing his country.

The 21-year old was omitted from the list released on Wednesday by Head coach of the U-23 National team Imama Amapakabo for the first leg of the encounter in March despite his impressive form for Rivers United which saw been named in the NPFL team of the week twice.

While reacting to his omission, Ubakanma told www.Cornerstonenewsng.comthat, though he took the news in good fate but he must continue working hard to be part of the team in the nearest future.

“It shows that I need to continue working hard, be the focus and also be prayerful so that I can be considered for the next call game”,

“I thought I will be invited because I’m eager to serve my father’s land with pride, but God knows the best but I’m happy for those that were invited too.”

The combative midfielder, however, wished the technical crew and the team all the best over the two legs.

“I wish the players, NNF  and the technical crew all the best as they step up preparations towards the match and  I’m pleased to see my teammate and good friend Emotan Cletus invited “. He concluded.

Nigeria is the defending champion of the Africa U23 Cup of Nations, having defeated Algeria in the final of the second edition of the championship staged by Senegal in December 2015. That triumph earned the Olympic Eagles a ticket to the Men’s Football Tournament of the Rio 2016 Olympics.
