Eagles will be fine vs South Africa without Mikel – Chukwu

Former Super Eagles Coach Christian Chukwu is optimistic that the absence of Captain John Obi Mikel won’t affect the performance of the team when they square up against the Bafana Bafana.

The Gernot Rohr tutored side are going to the crucial game without their influential captain for the fourth consecutive matches since after the World Cup in Russia.

In the absence of the former Chelsea of England midfielder, the team has won all the three games played and scoring ten times in the process.

However, Chukwu feels the three-time African champions will cope without their skipper again.

“We should remember that Mikel was not in the match against Libya and yet Nigeria came out victorious”.

“So, his absence in the South Africa match may not have any negative impact on the team,’’ he said.

The Super Eagles are leading Group E with nine points, one ahead of next opponents South Africa. The Mediterranean Knights of Libya are third,  while the Pirates of Seychelles are four.
