Enugu lawmaker assassinated, one arrested in connection with the crime

A Councillor representing Eha-Ulo ward, in Nsukka Local Government Area Legislative Council, Enugu State, Nelson Sylvester has been assassinated.
The lawmaker was said to have been killed by gunmen on Sunday night at his residence in Eha-Alumonah.
However, one person has been arrested in connection with the murder .
Although details of the incident are still sketchy, source disclosed that the assailants stormed the lawmaker’s house and started raining bullets on him.
He added that the Councilor ran into a neighbouring compound, from where his lifeless body was later recovered.
The development has sparked tension in the town and other neighbouring communities.
The source, who described the suspected assassination as one too many, added that “it is heartbreaking; it is too hard for us to swallow. We are in deep agony.”
It was also learnt that the lawmaker has been fighting against crime in the community and had successfully arrested and handed over many suspected criminals to the Police.
Enugu State Police Publlic Relations officer , Mr. Daniel Ndukwe said one male suspect has been arrested over the murder of a C Sylvester Nnacheta .
According to Ndukwe, the suspect is a members of the criminal gang which committed the dastardly act.
In a statement, Ndukwe , said,”police operatives of the Command have arrested one male suspect and a member of the criminal gang, alleged to have attacked and murdered Duhu Nelson Sylvester Nnacheta (a.k.a “Ofunwa”) , identified as the Councilor representing Eha-Ulo Ehalumona Council Ward, on July 16 , at about 11.30pm, at Umualoji Village in Ehalumona community of Nsukka LGA”
Ndukwe also revealed that Commissioner of Police Ahmed Ammani, has ordered an intense but discreet investigation and manhunt for the assailants.
