I rejected Poland for Nigeria – Alabi

Nigerian Amputee Polish Champion Bamgbopa Alabi, says he has intention to camp and train with his Nigerian teammates but remain in Poland because the team is struggling to raise funds.

Bamgbopa who just lift the Amputee Polish league title with his team, Gloria Versovia is one of the most experienced Nigeria players and has been playing in Europe since 2013.

Nigeria would be banking on him to help the team at the World Cup in Mexico after the team failure to participate in the 2014 World Cup due to lack of funds.

Nigeria is in the same group with Russia, El Salvador and Brazil which means Nigeria will need the services of her best players to qualify from the group.

Alabi said he would have loved to be part of the camping exercise in Nigeria but stayed back because of lack of funds facing the team.

He said “I would have loved to join my fellow players who are camped in Nigeria but I read on the pages of newspapers that the country has issues with funds.

“I had the intention of training with the guys before the World Cup and to share my experience about this game in Europe, because they get lot of supports”.

He revealed turned the chance to play for the Polish National team in order to represent his fatherland.

“The Polish Amputee Football team approached me to join them for the World Cup but I refused because of the love I have for Nigeria. Some individual claimed I do not want to camp in Nigeria because I am based in Poland, that is untrue. I just want the Nigeria team to focus on what they are doing, we are all the same player”, Alabi said.

The Nigeria Amputee team will fly the flag of the nation in the 2018 Amputee Football World Cup scheduled for October 24 and November 5.
