Injuries and suspension won’t stop Eagles from beating South Africa – Ndidi

Leicester City’s Wilfred Ndidi is confident the confidence the Super Eagles will qualify for 2019 Africa Cup of Nations in Cameroon after the team’s failure to reach the past to editions in 2015 and 2017 respectively.

The Super Eagles will go into the next qualifying game against South Africa In Johannesburg without keys players , no thanks to injuries and suspension but a win is enough to seal the team qualifications for the African biggest football showpiece.

However, Ndidi a former Gent of Belgium midfielder insists injuries are no excuse and believes the players are capable of delivering the AFCON ticket to Nigerians in the absence of suspended and injured players.

“We’ve suffered some setbacks but that is all part of the game, but Idon’t think that is enough to stop us,” Ndidi told BBC.

We have a big opportunity to return to the Nations Cup and Ibelieve the players can make it happen, Injury and suspensionshould not prevent us, it’s been tough to miss out because otherplayers at the club will tease you if you don’t play in major tournaments.

“For our careers, our country and fans we should be playing in theNations Cup and we have to make it happen now.”

Ndidi who is an integral part of the Super Eagles and Leicester city said the team can ride on the momentum built after the World Cup elimination to finish off the job in South Africa and proved that lesson was indeed learnt at the mundia.

“The World Cup is gone and we’ve been winning games after Russia, and it is an extra motivation to prove that we learned from the mistake of missing the last two tournaments in Africa.

“It is my dream to play in Cameroon next year, my teammates share the same ambition and we have a big chance to make it happen now,” he added.

Nigeria are top of Group E with nine points from four games and closely followed by second-placed South Africa with just a point separating them.

Nigeria will be guaranteed a place in Cameroon with a win in Johannesburg come November 17.
