LASTMA collaborates with Medical Guild on free screening for officials

The Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) has collaborated with the Lagos State Medical Doctors under the auspices of the Medical Guild (Lagos), on free Health Screening and Medical Services for Officers and men of the Agency.

The General Manager of LASTMA Mr Bolaji Oreagba, on Wednesday, during the opening ceremony of the exercise disclosed that the collaboration was pertinent in order to ensure stable medical fitness for officers of the agency.

The General Manager who was represented by Comptroller Morayo Ojeniyi (Director Welfare Matters of Lastma), disclosed that only the healthy would contribute to the development of the State.

Mr. Ojeniyi said that the agency has a standard and well equipped medical facilities with professionals who attend to staff medical needs on a daily basis.

He, however, commended Medical Guild and other specialists who supported the agency for a job well done.

Chairman of Lagos State branch of Medical Guild, Dr. Sa’eid Ahmad, said the initiative was part of the activities of Medical Guild being an association of all Lagos State employed medical practitioners.

Dr. Ahmad, said many Nigerians were suffering from one life-threatening ailment or the other without being aware, and that the only remedy was to always be in touch with the doctor – an expert, for checks.

“The doctors came to LASTMA office at Oshodi, taking safety messages to the door step of the officials by rendering free medical consultations, screenings and dental services”.

Dr. Ahmad disclosed that specialists were drafted to treat various ailments ranging from hypertension to diabetes, dental care among others.

According to the Chairman, “Only severe cases where the doctors on ground are unable to cope would be referred to the hospitals if need be,”

He described the gesture as a partnership of shared responsibilities to the public.

“Lastma as an agency of government performs services that save lives by ensuring that roads are free for ambulances conveying patients in critical/emergency conditions from one hospital to another”.

Dr. Bowale Okunade (Dental surgeon) said the exercise was to show that medical doctors in Lagos were not self-centered.

He assured that the Guild would extend such free services to other agencies in the state.

Other medical professionals who participated during the exercise includes Dr. Balogun Fatai (General Surgeon), Dr. Ajibowo Ismail (General Surgeon) and Dr. Dankuwo Adeleke the Vice Chairman of Lagos Medical Guild.
