No Panic in Pillars despite longest trophy drought yet

Four seasons on since they last won the league title Kano Pillars are experiencing the longest silverware drought since they first tasted league glory in 2007, but with the team in transition, there’s no pressure on the players to end the run this season according to midfielder Kamal Sikiru.

Pillars came close last season to end the drought in the Aiteo Cup, but a dramatic turn of events in the final against Rangers Int’l saw them relinquish a 3-0 lead and lose eventually on penalties.

The club last reached a cup final in 1991 and the disappoint was crushing, but Kamal insists the players are focused and under no pressure to deliver Masu Gida faithful with a trophy this term.

In a chat with brila.net, the midfielder admits winning the league again will come as a huge boost to the entire Pillars family, but the team is still adjusting to the Managerial changes that have seen the surprise return of former gaffer Ibrahim Musa to the helm,

‘so at the moment, everybody is just trying to get back to working well with the coach and the only pressure that seems to exist now is from the coaches,’ Kamal explained.
