Ogu admits Frustration over lack of playing time in Super Eagles

John Ogu says  he’s frustrated by his lack of game time in the Super Eagles despite constant invitation but vowed to ‘work hard’ to get Into the starting eleven.

Ogu who was left out of Nigeria team to 2014 World Cup in Brazil has been a constant name on Super Eagles team list since 2016, but Hapoel Be’er Sheva star had to settle for a bench role due to the presence of captain Mikel Obi as well as Wilfred Ndidi and Oghenekaro Etebo.

 

The 30-year old believes  Coach Gernot Rohr rate him high that’s why he gets invited into the team and must be patient for his chance.

 

“I know it’s frustrating because I want to play, but I also understand the coach has a job to do,” Ogu told BBC Sport.

 

“We have a great squad, as a footballer I always want to fight for my country on the pitch all the time.

 

“But the country and team comes before an individual so I will keep working hard to get my chance,” Ogu said.

 

Ogu, however praised the Nigerians who has called for his inclusion into the starting eleven and believe his time will come.

 

“I appreciate the support but I am a realist, there is a lot of competition and some players don’t get the chance to play,” he added.

 

“I missed out on the 2014 World Cup; I was picked but didn’t play in Russia, this is life.

 

“I am very happy to be a national team player and I must be patient.”
