Four policemen have been arrested by the Rivers State Police Command over their alleged involvement in electoral malpractice last Saturday during the Presidential and National Assembly elections in the state.
River State Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), SP Grace Iringe-Koko, confirmed the arrest in a statement on Monday, saying that the four polucemen were arrested following a video which trended on the social media, suggesting the involvement of some police personnel operating in a Pick Up Vehicle with inscription “RRT 050” in alleged electoral malpractice.
Iringe-Koko said, the Command had arrested and taken the officer (nameswitheld) and three inspectors into custody for interrogation.
The PPRO, said the police pick-up van in the trending video has also been impounded for thorough investigation.
The command has assured the electorate in the state of its unalloyed commitment to promoting the rule of law, and ensuring that all offenders found culpable are adequately sanctioned.
She urged residents to remain calm, and await for the official announcement of the result of the election.
