Quadri suffers early defeat in 2018 Swedish Open

Nigerian Tennis star Aruna Quadri has failed to advance to the main draw of 2018 Swedish  ITTF World Tour following Wednesday’s loss to Chinese Taipei Yun-Ju Lin.

The Nigerian secured a hard-fought 4-3 win over Robin Devos of Belgium in the second round of the preliminary stage and another 4-0 (11-6, 12-10, 11-7, 11-4) win in the third round to put himself in contention for a place in the main draw with just a win needed.

However, standing between Quadri and the ticket into the main draw was the Taiwanese Yun-Ju Lin, who came out victorious after winning the last three games 11-5, 11-2, 11-3 to complete a 4-1 win, although  Quadri fought back to the second game to win at 14-12, having lost the first 11-8 win.

Quadri who also suffered early defeat at the ITTF World Cup in Paris and ETTU Champions League said he has already turned his attention to the next championship in Austria.

“I think I gave my best having won two crucial matches in the tournament. I hope I can end the year on a good note. Unfortunately, I lost today but that is not the end of the world as I am looking forward to competing next week at the Austrian Open which is the last ITTF World Tour for the year.

I am hoping also that my two wins will help my ranking in November 2018,” Quadri said.
