It was a bad outing for two suspected truck hijackers as one of them jumped from the truck, hit his head on tarred road and died while his accomplice was arrested by the police.
The truck hijackers met their Waterloo while escaping with the truck,but were accosted by the Ogun State Police Command.
Giving a graphic account of what transpired, Ogun State Police Publlic Relations Officer (PPRO) SP Abimbola Oyeyemi, said:” Men of Ogun state Police Command on the 4th of April 2023, arrested one Akeem Adeleke for hijacking a truck loaded with industrial raw material along Lagos-Ibadan expressway at gun point.
“The suspect was arrested following a distress call made to men of the Federal Highway patrol stationed along the Expressway by driver of the truck, who ran to the policemen and informed them that while driving his truck towards Ibadan, two unknown gunmen suddenly jumped into the vehicle and pushed him out.
“He explained further, that the hoodlums took over the vehicle from him and drove it towards Lagos.
Upon the complain, the patrol team started tracing the truck towards Lagos and they luckily sighted it somewhere along the road.
“Having noticed that policemen are trailing them, one of the robbers who was driving the truck jumped out on motion, but fell down and hit his head against the tarred road and died on the spot.
“His accomplice, Akeem Adeleke, was subsequently arrested and taken to Ewu-Oliwo divisional headquarters.
“The DPO Ewu-Oliwo division, CSP Toyosi Bello, accompanied the patrol team to the scene where the body of the robber was recovered to the Olabisi Onabanjo University Teaching Hospital morgue.
“Recovered from the arrested suspect are; one locally made pistol;three live cartridges, two itel phones and some Criminal charms”.
Meanwhile, the state Commissioner of Police, CP Frank Mba, has directed that the suspect be transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Departments for discreet investigation.
CP Mba, has therefore ,warned criminals to stay clear of Ogun state, as they would always meet their waterloo in any part of the state.
