Zambia’s win over Equatorial Guinea no fluke, despite Falcons defeat – Coach Mwape

Zambia’s Coach Bruce Mwape, Says his team was punished for making a lot of mistakes in their second Group B game against Nigeria at ongoing Africa women Nations Cup in Ghana on Wednesday.

Nigeria bounced back from opening game defeat to South Africa with a 4:0 comprehensive victory over the Shepolopolo who recorded an impressive 5:0 win over Equatorial Guinea last Sunday.

Goals from Desire Oparanozie, Francisca Ordega, Rasheedat Ajibade, and Amarachi Okonkwo was enough to complete the massacre of the Zambians but Coach Nwappe believes the defeat was caused by errors of his girls.

“I will congratulate Nigeria for their victory today. They played well and actually, my team made a lot of mistakes especially during transition, thus we lost most of the balls.

After winning 5-0 in our first game against Equatorial Guinea, a lot of people were expecting us to give Nigeria tough time, unfortunately, things didn’t go as planned”. He told CAF media.

The coach also added that the defeat will have no negative impact on his team mauling of Equatorial Guinea in their opening match.

“The 5-0 win in the opening match was no fluke according to the game we played. We created a lot of goal scoring opportunities in that game compared to today. Lack of consistency cost us. If we had played the way we did in our first game, the story could have been different” he concluded.

The Zambians must beat the high flying Bafana Bafana of South Africa in their last group game and hope Nigeria slip against Equatorial Guinea to stand a chance of advancing to the semifinals.
