2023 AFCON Qualifiers: CAF hands Nigeria another Opponent

Nigeria’s Super Eagles will now face Sao Tome and Principe in Group A of the 2023 AFCON qualifiers instead of Mauritius.

CAF upheld Sao Tome and Principe’s appeal against the Disciplinary Committee’s decision which earlier disqualified them from the qualifiers.

The governing body upheld Sao Tome and Principe’s appeal against the petition by Mauritius that it fielded an illegible player in a playoff qualifying clash between the two countries.

The Falcons were initially disqualified after captain Luis Leal failed to provide a valid Covid-19 test result before their preliminary round clash against the Dodos in March.

Sao Tome will now face the Super Eagles on June 13 at their adopted ground in Rabat, Morocco.
