3SC will not contest the result big the week 17 rescheduled NNL game which saw Insurance of Benin grabbing the winner through a last minute penalty awarded by the center referee.
The match, which was played at the University of Benin Sports Complex, started on Sunday and was completed on Monday morning following the decision of the match commissioner to stop the game at half due to heavy downpour.
Shooting Stars raced to a half-time lead through Olawale Mutiu’s free kick in second minutes but Insurance restored the parity in the second half and got the winner through a penalty, which was awarded in the last minute of added time by referee Nwite Thomas.
The team manager Dimeji Lawal will not file a complaint but confirmed some fans tried to bring the game into disrepute.
“ The match has come and gone and it has been won and lost. Congratulations to the winners. It showed that our best was not enough and we will work harder in the next stage, ” he said.
“If there will be the playoffs, we have qualified for it and we still have a chance at gaining promotion to the Premier League. Although there were some unruly fans, who attacked players and officials, there were others who ensured that much damage was avoided. ”
The win means Insurance will replace 3SC at the top of Group B 1 table – with a game in hand, while 3SC is second with all matches played.
