10 Common iOS 12 Beta Problems & Fixes

10 Common iOS 12 Beta Problems & Fixes is a post by Adam Mills from Gotta Be Mobile.

Apple’s iOS 12 beta problems are annoying users who have decided to jump onto the pre-release version of Apple’s next operating system. If you’re struggling on the beta, allow us to take you through known fixes for some of the most common iOS 12 beta issues plaguing the iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch.

The developer iOS 12 beta is available and Apple plans to push the update into public beta later this month. Testing pre-release software is exciting, but Apple’s first beta is causing a variety of problems ranging from small bugs to performance issues.

Along with new features there’s a good chance you’ll run into errors, bugs, and issues that impact the performance of your battery, connectivity, and apps. Issues with apps and performance are extremely common and are often tricky to fix.

It’s early so we expect the list of iOS 12 beta problems to grow as we push into the month. Apple will eventually roll out a new beta update, but it could be a few days before it arrives. If you can’t wait for Apple to fix your issue, you’ll need to solve the problem manually or downgrade to iOS 11 and wait for the new version to roll out.

This list of fixes will help get you started and will help you avoid a downgrade back to Apple’s iOS 11 update.

How to Fix iOS 12 Beta Installation Problems

If this is your first time trying an iOS beta, make sure you take a look at our iOS 12 beta installation guide. It will help you avoid installation issues by holding your hand through the entire process.

If your installation suddenly gets stuck, you can try a hard reset and try installing the beta again. You can also try entering recovery mode and restore to a recent version of iOS. After you revert back to an older version of iOS, you can try installing the iOS 12 beta again.

If neither of those steps work for you, you can also try removing the SIM card. This method has worked for a few people, but you should only do this if you’re installing the beta on a secondary device.

How to Fix iOS 12 Beta Bluetooth Problems

If your Bluetooth connectivity starts acting up on iOS 12 beta, here are a few quick workarounds to try.

First open up your Settings app and head to your Bluetooth connections. Tap on the blue i in the circle next to the Bluetooth connection giving you problems and tap Forget This Device on the next screen. Once your device forgets the device, try reconnecting.

You can also try resetting your device’s network settings. Here’s how to do this:

  • Go into Settings.
  • Go to General.
  • Scroll down to Reset.
  • Tap Reset Network Settings.

This process will take a few seconds to complete. It’ll also cause your device to forget known connections including Wi-Fi connections so make sure you have your passwords present.

You might also try resetting all of your settings, reverting them back to their factory defaults.

  • Go into Settings.
  • Go to General.
  • Scroll down to Reset.
  • Tap Reset All Settings.

This will also cause your device to forget known connections so, again, make sure you have passwords to your favorite Wi-Fi connections handy.

How to Fix iOS 12 Beta Cellular Data Problems

If your cellular connection (LTE/4G) suddenly becomes unstable while running iOS 12 beta, there’s no need to panic. It might be an outage or it could take a simple tweak to get it working properly.

The first thing to do is check in with your carrier to determine if there is an outage in your area. Follow these links to AT&T, Sprint, T-Mobile, or Verizon to see if there are widespread issues. If you need to, you should contact their customer service lines. Reps there could provide you with more info.

If you’re positive the issue isn’t related to a carrier outage, try restarting your phone or tablet to see if that jumpstarts the connection.

If you’re still experiencing problems after a restart, head into Settings > About and check for a carrier update. This can sometimes alleviate the issue.

You can also try toggling Cellular Data off and on. To do this, go into Settings > Cellular > Toggle it off. You also might try enabling Airplane Mode on your device for a minute or two in Settings or via Control Center and then check your connection again.

You might also try resetting your Network Settings:

  • Go into Settings.
  • Go to General.
  • Scroll down to Reset.
  • Tap Reset Network Settings.

This will cause your device to forget known Wi-Fi networks so make sure you’ve got your Wi-Fi passwords written down somewhere.

How to Fix iOS 12 Beta Wi-Fi Problems

iOS 12 beta testers are noticing slow speeds and frequent drops. Wi-Fi issues are notoriously hard to fix, but here are a few things to try if you start seeing issues.

First, try unplugging your router for a minute or two. We also recommend looking to see if there is a service outage in your area. You can use Down Detector to find your ISP.

If you’re sure it’s not related to an outage or your router, head into settings and forget the Wi-Fi network giving you problems. Here’s how to do this:

  • Go into Settings.
  • Tap Wi-Fi.
  • Select your connection.
  • Tap Forget this Network at the top of the screen.
  • Type in your password and reconnect.

If the issues persist, head into Settings and reset your network settings.

  • Go to Settings.
  • Tap General.
  • Scroll to Reset.
  • Tap Reset Network Settings on the next screen.
  • Type in your password and see if it reconnects.

Apple’s also got its own guide to Wi-Fi problems and you might find a fix that works for you there.

How to Fix iOS 12 Beta App Problems

If you’re having trouble downloading apps or app updates from the App Store, restart your device and try downloading the app or the app update again.

If you’re dealing with app performance problems, you should make sure you’re running the latest version of the app. If that doesn’t solve the issue, try reinstalling the app.

It’s important to note that some apps and services simply won’t run well on pre-release software. App developers won’t release iOS 12 support updates during the beta.

If you’re on the latest iOS 12 beta/version of the app and it isn’t running well, you might have to downgrade to iOS 11.

How to Fix iOS 12 Time Zone Problems

There is a known issue where devices running the iOS 12 beta don’t properly switch time zones. This could be problematic if you’re a frequent flyer. Fortunately there’s an easy workaround while Apple works on a permanent fix.

If your time zone doesn’t change automatically, you’ll need to set your time zone manually in Settings. Here’s how to do this:

  • Go to Settings.
  • Tap General.
  • Go to Date & Time.
  • Tap Time Zone.
  • Choose the correct time zone.

How to Fix iOS 12 Performance Problems

If you start experiencing an abnormal amount of lag while using iOS 12 beta, please take a look at our guide to fixing performance issues.

If you start noticing freezes and lockups, try restarting your iPhone or iPad. If you’re seeing these issues within a particular application, check for an app update.

If you start noticing stuttering when switching between applications, you should try adjusting the click speed of the home button. To do that, head into your Settings > General > Accessibility > Home Button.

How to Fix iOS 12 Keyboard Problems

In its iOS 12 beta change log, Apple notes that while typing in certain applications, keyboard suggestions might overlap. It’s an annoying problem, but you can solve the issue by closing and re-opening the application or document.

How to Fix iOS 12 Wi-Fi Calling Problems

In some cases, Wi-Fi Calling might become disabled after installing the iOS 12 beta on a device. If you notice Wi-Fi Calling isn’t enabled, you need to manually turn it back on. Here’s how to do this:

  • Go to your Settings app.
  • Scroll down and tap Phone.
  • Tap Wi-Fi Calling.
  • Toggle Wi-Fi Calling on This iPhone to on.

How to Fix iOS 12 Siri Problems

iOS 12 beta users are reporting a few issues with Siri.

Some users are noticing issues with the “Hey Siri” feature. If Hey Siri starts acting up while running iOS 12, here are a few fixes to try.

  • Make sure Hey Siri is turned on. Go to Settings > Siri & Search and make sure it’s enabled.
  • If Hey Siri is enabled, try turning Siri off and restarting the device. Once your device reboots, toggling Siri back on.
  • If neither of those steps work, try resetting all of your Settings. Go to Settings > General > Reset > Reset All Settings. This will cause your device to forget Wi-Fi passwords so write those down if you need to.

If Messages won’t when tapping on message content, you’ll need to exit Siri and launch Messages. Apple will likely include a fix for this issue in a future iOS 12 beta.
