Wimbledon Open: Serena Williams advances into quarter-finals

Serena Williams has issued a warning to her rivals at Wimbledon with a dominating 6-2, 6-2, win over Russia’s Evgeniya Rodina.

Williams was taking on Rodina in the first-ever Grand Slam main draw match between mothers after the Russian upset No.10 seed Madison Keys in the third round, and wasted little time to make her 13th career last eight appearance at Wimbledon after 64 minutes on court.

The American faced few problems in the opening set, and navigated through the lone break against her serve with relative ease, breaking straight back to clinch the match behind 30 winners to just 11 unforced errors.

Rodina, by contrast, struggled to find her range in her first Centre Court appearance of the fortnight, striking only five winners and 10 unforced errors throughout the clash.

Standing between Serena and the semifinals is big-hitting Italian Camila Giorgi, who reached her first major quarterfinal earlier in the day after defeating Rodina’s countrywoman Ekaterina Makarova in straight sets.
