The National Executive members of All Progressives Congress Volunteers (APC volunteers group) worldwide have endorsed Senators Alhmed Lawan and Ovie Omo-Agege for the positions of Senate President and Deputy Senate President respectively.
In a statement signed by the Public Relation Officer of the support group, Comr. Abdulazeez Obeito Arigi made available to Daily Sun, he stated that the decision was unanimously taken yesterday after the Executive meeting, adding that it was imperative so that democracy would flourish in our dear country.
Arigi said the decision would bring about dividend of democracy that would meet the yearnings of vulnerable Nigerians and promote a robust legislature, ” there is need to have a legislative leadership with a vision that will maintain a genuine cordial relationship with the executive and judiciary arms of government.
” The political and national development of any democratic country is a function of the mutual and cordial but also genuine relation between the legislature and other arms of government. Where such a relationship is not a cordial one, it leads to malfunction of the apparatuses of the state.
” It is important for visionary and capable loyal members of the APC party to take charge of the 9th National Assembly leadership because the party cannot afford another round of rancorous term, where its majority in the National Assembly metamorphosed into a rebellious opposition”.
” The volunteer’s group will not regret if credible, experienced, matured and responsible candidates in the person of Alhmed Ibrahim Lawan and Ovie Omo-Agege who have the capacity to deliver the dividends of democracy to Nigerians have been penciled to preside over the Senate house.
“We, therefore, call on all the APC senators to rally round the decision of the party to ensure stability and cohesiveness of the National Assembly and avoid the mistakes of the past”, he concluded.
