Police rescue Daura district head months after kidnap

The Magajin of Daura, Alhaji Musa Umar. has finally regained freedom after 60 days in the kidnapper’s den. Alhaji Umar, an in-law to President Muhammadu Buhari and a traditional ruler in Daura, was successfully rescued by the IGP Intelligence Response Team (IRT) today July 2, after he was abducted on May 1, in his home town Daura, Katsina State.

According to the Nigerian Police, IRT operatives led by DCP Abba Kyari while acting on the directives from the Inspector General of Police (IGP ) Adamu Mohammed conducted six weeks unrelenting follow up together with Kaduna and Niger States police Commands.

The rescue mission through high-level Intelligence-led operations which was conducted in Kaduna, Bauchi, Niger, Katsina, Katsina, and the Kogi States led to the arrest of 11 of the terrorist and kidnappers including the overall gang leader and rescue of the victim In Panshakara area of Kano city. One of the terrorist/kidnappers, was, however, killed during the rescue operation assisted by the Kano State police command.

The police noted that it also took the efforts of the Kano State, Police Mobile Force (PMF) and other police units who assisted the IRT to subdue and overpowered the kidnappers and enabled the successful rescue of the victim.

A police source who spoke on anonymity said several AK47 rifles and ammunition were recovered and many of the suspected kidnappers were arrested alive.
