We’ve done Well! Alex Iwobi scores Nigeria’s 2019 AFCON campaign High

Alex Iwobi said the Super Eagles didn’t expect any easy games at the AFCON 2019 and they’ve thus far not been proven wrong after a difficult first round in the competition.

Nigeria opened the AFCON 2019 campaign with a narrow 1-0 win over debutants Burundi and followed it with another slim 1-0 win over Guinea’s Syli Nationale.

However, the Super Eagles by another Madagascar in the final group game. The Barea defeated their more illustrious opponent 2-0 in a game that also decided the group winner.

Describing the team’s run thus far, Iwobi lauded the competitiveness of both Burundi and Madagascar, but insists the team still got the most important job done – qualifying for the next round.

“For us I believe we’ve done well, I mean it’s not easy to come and qualify,” Iwobi told the Super Eagles official Youtube channel.

“They’ll say we’re the favorites but we already knew it wasn’t going to be easy; Burundi and Madagascar are playing in their first; in the competition, but they showed why they should be here.

“No game was easy but we were able to qualify and that’s the main thing.”
