Why I Choose to play for Italy ahead of Nigeria – Ogbonna

Nigerian-born Italian defender Angelo Ogbonna has reacted to the growing racism cases currently rooking the Italian football community.

 

Several black players has suffered racial abuses while in action for their respective clubs and country lately.

 

FIFA President recently called out the Italian Football Federation to stamp their authority and do something to address several racism cases that has rocked the Italian football this season.

 

Born in Cassino Italy to Nigerian parents, the central defender made his debut for Italy’s senior national team in a friendly against Poland in November 2011, believed all players should be treated equally.

 

”I grew up with Nigerian parents, but I chose to play for the Italian national team because I felt that was right.

 

”Whether you are black, Asian or whatever, you should be proud. I always say, we should be focused on the important things, which are not black or white.

 

”We are the same people. We all laugh and we all cry. For me, there is no difference”.

 

The 31-year-old Ogbonna won the Serie  A titles with Just a, won 13 caps for Italy and appeared at two major tournaments for the Azzuris.
