A group, Concern Abians for Good Governance and Justice (CAGGJ), has commended the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) over its’ grilling of the immediate past governor of Abia State, Theodore A. Orji, and his son, Chinedum Enyinnaya Orji, over allegation of fraud.
Chinedum Orji is the current Speaker of Abia State House of Assembly and allegedly wielded enormous powers when his father held sway as the governor of the state.

Reports at the weekend indicated that during the investigation, the EFCC allegedly traced over N500bn to 100 accounts of the Orji’s, stashed in about five different banks.
Chinedum Orji was reported to have been a
a frequent guest at the EFCC headquarters “to throw light on his involvement in the fraud”, his last visit being last Thursday, February 5.
President of CAGGJ, comrade Egwu D. Uwa, said though the action of the EFCC was coming late, it was commendable as the Orji’s had been behaving as if they were untouchables.
“Abians whose commonwealth was cornered by a few individuals in the last administration has been waiting for this day. Although the EFCC action is coming late, it is a commendable development, because the people have in the past years been roaming the streets as if they
were untouchables”.
Uwa said his group and the people of the state support that EFCC would not only stop at investigation but would move steps further to ensure that those who looted public funds were made to account for them.
“It was not for nothing that Abia which is the first in the country alphabetically is the last in terms of development. If one family could stash away over N500bn, what will then remain for the development of the state?”,
Uwa queried.
Uwa said his group and indeed other Abians were ready to volunteer information that would aid EFCC officials in their investigations.
“Most of the roads in Abia are impassable, workers and pensioners in the state are owed several months of arrears and we are talking of EFCC tracing over N500bn to about 100 accounts of the family of the man that left office as governor and who contributed immensely to the
workers’ plight and lack of infrastructure in the state”.
Uwa commended Prince Benjamin Benedict Apugo who he said has been at the forefront of calling for the probe of the officials of the past administration in the state and urged him not to relent.
