Former Super Eagles forward Benedict Akwuegbu has called on the leadership of the Nigeria Football Federation to give former players equal opportunities to contribute their quota to the development of the game in the country.
Akwuegbu accused the current leadership of the Nigeria Football Governing body of giving some ex-internationals chances to be involved in the development of the game in the country than others.
The 2002 World Cup star, however, called for equal opportunities for the ex-internationals to be involved with the development of the game.
“After serving the country for 19 years, I’ve not been recognized by the NFF. Akwuegbu said.
“I was so good to them (NFF) during my playing days, so why is it that now that I’m no longer playing, they don’t take me along, invite me to anything they are doing – but such is life.”
“They should try to carry other players along. It would be a good thing for them to recognize and give other ex-players a chance. At least, they are giving other ones a chance, let them balance it.” he said.
Akwuegbu was part of the squad to that represented Nigeria in the 1989 U16 World Cup in Scotland and made a total of 30 appearances for the Super Eagles, scoring eight goals.
