Iwobi “Forever Grateful” To Wenger For Influence On Career

Nigeria forward Alex Iwobi has praised Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger for the Frenchman’s role in shaping his career at the club, reports Completesportsnigeria. com.

Wenger will quit role at the end of the season having spent over two decades with the Gunners.

He made his decision known through a press statement on Friday.

Iwobi is one of the youngsters the Frenchman has mentored at the club, graduating from the club’s academy to the first team.

“For Everything You’ve Done For Arsenal Football Club, For Trusting Me As A Teenager, For Giving Me The Opportunity To Express Myself And Grow Both As A Footballer And As A Person, I Will Forever Be Grateful To You Boss. Thank You So Much! ,” Iwobi wrote on Twitter on Friday.

The 21-year-old who joined Arsenal while still at primary school was first involved in a first-team match as an unused substitute in a League Cup match against West Bromwich Albion in September 2013.

He made his first-team debut for the club, starting in a 3-0 defeat to Sheffield Wednesday in the Round of 16 of the League Cup in October 2015.

The winger made his Premier League debut four days later in a 3-0 win against
Swansea City at the Liberty Stadium, as a stoppage time substitute for Mesut Özil .

Wenger won three Premier League titles and seven FA Cups in his 22 years at Arsenal. He could win his first European trophy in his final season as the club are in the UEFA Europa League semi-finals.
