Four policemen were reportedly injured in an accident involving a security backup vehicle in the convoy of the Chief of Staff to President Muhammedu Buhari, Prof. Ibrahim Gambari.
The accident occurred on Tuesday, in Oko, near Asaba, Delta State, shortly after Prof. Gambari led the Minister of Works and Housing, Babatunde Fashola, and his Labour and Employment counterpart, Chris Ngige, on an inspection tour of the second Niger Bridge.
The ill-fated vehicle was said to have plunged into a ditch while negotiating a curve at high speed.
Locals said the driver of the vehicle lost control before crashing into a deep pit while trying to maneuver his way resulting in the incident.
Public Relations Officer of Delta State Police Command, DSP Bright Edafe, confirmed the accident.
Edafe, however, described it as a “minor accident” involving a backup vehicle in the convoy during the inspection visit. He said no life was lost to the unfortunate incident, on Tuesday.
However, Daily Sun learnt that the four officers involved sustained varying degrees of injuries, and were currently receiving treatment in an undisclosed hospital.
