Police rescue 7 pregnant girls found in Lagos

The Lagos State Police Command has discovered seven pregnant girls and a two-year-old child wondering at the Cele area officially Lagos
The police said they were investigating to know where the pregnant women and the minor were coming from.


A senior police officer who spoke on the condition of anonymity as he was not supposed to speak to the press, said the police were suspecting that the pregnant women may have escaped from a baby factory or where brought from another State and abandoned on the road.

Lagos State police public relations officer, DSP Bala Elkana said:

” On October 2, at about 1.am, Isolo Police Station received Information that seven pregnant young girls were seen and looking stranded at Cele Bus Stop, along Oshodi- Apapa Express Way. A team of detectives led by the divisional police officer, Isolo police Station, CSP Folorunsho Gabriel, mobilised to the area.


“The pregnant girls were rescued to the Station. They are between the ages of 13 and 27. Five of them are from Imo State, the remaining two are from Abia and Rivers States respectively. A child of about 2 years was also rescued. They were handed over to the National Agency for the prohibition of Trafficking in person (NAPTIP) for further investigation. The factories were uncovered Sunday by policemen attached to the Isheri Osun division.
Last Sunday, I9 pregnant ladies were rescued in three different baby factories in the Ikotun area of the state. Elkana said:

” Acting on information from a reliable source, detectives from Isheri Osun police station, led by the divisional police officer, CSP Chike Ibe, stormed a building on number 14, Adisa Street, Ayanwale area of Ikotun, suspected to be used for child trafficking. The police moved to three other places and rescued 19 pregnant ladies; between the ages of 15 and 28, and four kids.“They were rescued in four different locations. The areas the victims were rescued include:32 Owosho Street, Governor Road, Ikotun; 29 Olugbeyohun Street, Olakunle Bus stop Abaranja; 4/6 Anomo Street, Abaranja and 14, Adisa Street, Anyanwale.

“The pregnant women were brought from Rivers, Cross River, Akwa Ibom, Anambra, Abia, and the Imo States. Two suspects, Happiness, 40, and Sherifat, 54, were arrested in connection with the cases.
