Nigeria’s Women top tennis player Sarah Adegoke says she has a score to settle with Samuel Blessing as the two clash at this year’s final of the National Open Tennis Championship in Kano.
In what is a repeat of last year’s final fixture in Kano, Adegoke is determined to change the course of history on Friday when the two renew their rivalry.
In what will be their fifth meeting, Adegoke is still chasing her first win against her rival in the ancient city.
Samuel Blessing clinched the title last year at the expense of Adegoke; and has won four since her emergence on the scene.
Both ease past their respective semi-final opponents: Adegoke defeated Christie Agugbom who retired with the score at 6-4, 5-2. On her part, Samuel Blessing picked Patience Onebamhoin apart in straight sets 6-1, 6-1.
In a chat with Brila.net, Sarah Adegoke said,”Playing Christie has really boosted my confidence for the final because I played her recently and it didn’t go too well for me; I lost to her in the semis. And playing her has helped to prepare me mentally for the final with Blessing.
“The rivalry between Blessing and myself is about 40-60 percent respectively, because we have our history and have met in a lot of tournaments, but the only place I seem to have a problem playing her is here in Kano.
“Outside of Kano she’s never beaten me and I have also never beaten her in Kano and I’m hoping to change that, hopefully, so I can get that out of my system.”
