Argentina forward Sergio Aguero has been ruled out for one month after undergoing a meniscus surgery on his knee in Barcelona, Spain on Tuesday, according to reports in Argentina.
The Albiceleste striker missed Manchester City’s 3-1 Premier League win over Tottenham Hotspur last Saturday due to a knee injury, with his club manager Pep Guardiola claiming he did not know for how long the striker would be out of action.
Argentina will face Nigeria in their final Group D game at the 2018 FIFA World Cup in Russia after battling Iceland and Croatia in their opening two games.
“Aguero visited Dr Cugat last Thursday and they decided yesterday that the surgery in his meniscus was the best option. He underwent the surgery Tuesday morning in Barcelona and he will be out one month. He will play the World Cup without problems,” a report in Argentina claimed.
In all competitions this season Aguero has scored 30 goals in 39 appearances.
Aguero, 29, is Argentina’s first choice striker for the World Cup in Russia.
