Assistant coach of Nigeria’s women basketball team Peter Ahmedu has revealed that the victory recorded by Nigeria’s D’Tigress at the just concluded Women Afrobasket in Senegal came under serious threat during the final quarter of the final game.
Ahmedu speaking in a chat with www.brila.net upon arrival in Nigeria said the fourth quarter was so scary that the tension got to the players who started missing free throws and everyone started becoming jittery.
He however revealed that the technical crew had to quickly figure a way to change the system of play which lead to the introduction of Promise Amukamara and the game came alive once again for Nigeria after having trailed by 10pts to zero in the fourth quarter.
“During the fourth quarter, it was a very dicey game and the tension was up. We were fighting the fans, the referees, the table statisticians and the players.
We almost lose focus because we were not making our free throws, everybody was jittery and was missing free throws but the coach later changed the system of play.
And we thank God for that, Promise came in and made a difference and you could see Ezinne who had all eyes on her at that time wasn’t also making free throws but with the comportment of the technical crew, reading the game and making the right changes, we are smiling today because we deserve it.”
